I love Maus! Make sure you have Vol 2 lined up too. You MUST Read them together -- it's a continuing story that just ends after part 1.

I loved The House on Mango Street, and Chocolat was way better than the movie, in my opinion. Even though the movie had Johnny Depp, which is a terrific addition. ;)
