Forbidden
Some memories are better left bricked, stuck
tight behind layers of mortar spread thick
like frosting,
icing on the cake.
The one about: forbidden.
And when: forbidden.
That summer: forbidden.
Forbidden. Forbidden.
See how cleanly I can replace
what's fallen, neatly fitting together
brick upon brick,
mortar thick,
keeping them all in their
appropriate place.

Thanks so much for your comment!!
ReplyDeleteI have a few of those memories myself. Some that I'd just as soon never think about again.
ReplyDeleteYour play between repeated words and repeated sounds makes for a haunting poem about dangerous memories. It's good to see you posting again for Sunday Scribbling!
ReplyDeleteThe repetition pounds the point home, and allows the reader's mind to go to the dark side. Excellent poem. BJ
ReplyDeleteExcellent poem!
ReplyDeleteWords and sounds echo here as though they are trying to escape those bricks and mortar. A skillful, haunting poem.
ReplyDeleteWonderful post. The intensity of that summer came through.
ReplyDeleteWhat an intense piece, and so skillfully written. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteI loved this poem! It made me think of all the things I have spent a lifetime trying to forget; not nearly as bad now as they had once been.
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice poem, it was a pleasure reading it from one poet to another.
ReplyDeleteForbidden doesn't mean we need to forget, forbidden is also precious to keep them in their appropirate place, brick upon brick, motor thick! Just lovely! Very Nice. Loved this post.
ReplyDeleteThe more bricks, the easier the wall falls.
